At Adams Autoworx Albany we often see Subaru vehicles come in with oil leak concerns. If you’ve spotted oil stains in your driveway or noticed a burning smell after a drive, chances are your Subaru has sprung an oil leak. Oil leaks are a common issue with many Subaru models, especially those with “boxer” engines, but the key is catching the problem early before it turns into a major repair. The valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket are the most frequent cause of Subaru oil leaks. As they age, there is a natural tendency to shrink and/or crack which allows oil to leak out. Crankshaft and camshaft seals are also vulnerable. These seals gradually wear down as they age, allowing for oil leaks to occur. Leaks can also occur underneath the engine.
